Grampian 37 - £ inf (Offer asked)
The Grampian 37 is an offshore cruising yacht with a spacious interior and excellent sailing characteristics. The design is in the name of the Canadian Alex McGruer, known for his classic and very seaworthy hull shapes. The Grampian 37 is a very fast cruiser which can sail close hauled high to the wind, but also has great course stability when running before the wind in rough seas. Especially in heavy weather, the Finn keel S-shaped hull cuts smoothly through the waves. There read more were not many built by the English Porter and Haylett Ltd in Wroxham, Norfolk, East Anglia. In fact you will seldom encounter them. This design was a modern and larger version of the classic Grampian 34, of which more than 300 had been built. The lines and boat layout of the Grampian 37 is similar to that of the Swan 38.
The ‘Lady Gordon’ was built in 1983 and is equipped to accomodate 8 people. The lamination of the fiberglass reinforced hull occurred in May 1983, under the supervision of Lloyds (see Lloyd's Register of Shipping GRP hull molding note). The interior was fitted out with great skill completely in teak wood.In 1979 the production of the Grampian 37 began. In five years a total of 33 yachts were built. The ‘Lady Gordon’ is the very last Grampian 37, hull number # 33, after which the yard proceeded with the construction of hundreds of family motor cruisers for the French, English and Dutch holiday boat-rental market.
The ‘Lady Gordon’ was a charter boat on the IJsselmeer for its first six years until it was bought by a German architect in 1989. A new, heavier 28 Pk Volvo Penta was installed and the boat was equipped with new sails, furling jib etc. The first private owner improved the boat significantly between 1989 – 1991 but decided to sell it in 1992 (he was a very tall person and started looking out for a larger yacht with more headroom). The current owner acquired the boat in 1992 and upgraded the engine cooling to indirect cooling, avoiding seawater passing through the motor. The keel bolts were examined and - also as a precaution – an International Paint anti-osmosis treatment was carried out by peeling off the gelcoat and replacing it with 7 layers of epoxy paint. All major repairs and improvements were made by reputable yacht shipyards in the UK and Netherlands (Sirius in Lemmer, Goodchild Marine in Burgh Castle, and Atlantic Yachts in Harlingen).
The owner’s goal was to cross the Atlantic Ocean with the “Lady Gorden”, however his health is forcing him to sell this beautiful and sturdy yacht. For the true sailer, this is a unique opportunity to acquire the last built, best preserved and least used Grampian 37
